Alabama the beautiful is what we see as we all drive by a welcome center along an interstate. How do we make that happen as residents? Well the Alabama Gulf Coast has been doing their part for over 26 years. The third Saturday of September has been marked on many of our calendars for years as the day to “get the trash out of the splash”. Keeping our waters and neighborhoods clean is very important all of us and to our wildlife too. Protecting Alabama and keeping it beautiful is an important part of who we are.
There is plenty of work and everyone is invited to do their part. There are around 25 different locations set up to give directional support to volunteers. Visit http://www.alcoastalcleanup.com/clean-up.html to find one that fits your needs and sign up! Families are welcome to take part too! Be sure to be prepared with plenty of sunscreen, hat, gloves, closed toed shoes, lots of water, and plenty of energy. You can even start a new group in your area and clean up the trash, it is always a big help in keeping Alabama Beautiful! It doesn’t have to stop in September. There are many ways to help anytime. Call 800-ALA-PALS anytime and see how you can help year round.
In 1987, Alabama joined the International Coastal Cleanup in 1987 making a commitment to keep our Alabama Beautiful with an annual event. Since then, we have removed 1,420,466 pounds of debris and cleaned 4,582 miles of Alabama coastline. Thank you to all who have helped make this happen. Together we truly make Alabama Beautiful.
